Melanie started out her avian experience with a budgie in childhood, and in her adult life she has over 35 years of experience owning and working with parrots.  She originally came to Bonnie Kenk, the founder of PEAC, with an avian behavioral question some 18 or 19 years ago, and soon became one of Bonnie’s most loyal volunteers, which she remained until the time of Bonnie’s departure.  Melanie now has 20 years’ experience as a parrot rescue volunteer, including more than 6 years as an Operations Manager and Adoption Committee member and over 15 years’ experience as Editor-in-Chief of a non-profit parrot rescue newsletter.
Melanie lives at the beach in Southern San Diego County with her dog, her Goffin’s cockatoo, and her green-cheeked conure (all rescues), as well as whatever ARC foster birds need her specialized help at any given time.  She is always available by email at, and would love to hear your questions and/or comments about ARC, or bird care, or problems with your companion parrot.
